Locked Out

B&B Locksmiths provides professional 24/7 emergency locksmith and lockout assistance for homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents, businesses and authorised property managers throughout Oxford and Oxfordshire.

As an MLA Approved Company, licence number 002674, B&B Locksmiths never subcontracts its work. We handle your enquiry and any work required directly, so you know who you are dealing with from your first call through to completion.

If you are locked out of your house, flat, office, shop or other premises, we can assess the door and lock, identify the likely cause of the problem and use the most appropriate entry method to help you regain access. Wherever possible, we aim to regain access without causing unnecessary damage to the door, lock or surrounding hardware.

Emergency Lockout Assistance

A lockout can happen at any time and may leave you unable to enter your home, rental property or business premises.

Common reasons for being locked out include:

  • Lost or stolen keys

  • Keys left inside the property

  • A key broken inside the lock

  • A stiff, jammed or damaged lock

  • A failed multipoint locking mechanism

  • The door closing behind you

  • A key that turns without opening the door

  • A failed handle or internal locking mechanism

We can assess the problem, explain the available options and recommend the most appropriate way to regain access. If the lock or locking mechanism has failed, we can then advise whether further repair or replacement is required.

How Can a Locksmith Open a Locked Door?

The method used will depend on the type of door, lock and fault involved. Where appropriate, we use professional non-destructive entry techniques to open the door while minimising unnecessary damage to the lock, door and surrounding hardware.

However, some faulty, damaged or high-security locks may require controlled drilling or removal before access can be gained. We will assess the situation and explain the available options, together with any likely repair or replacement requirements, before carrying out destructive work, wherever circumstances allow.

Destructive entry is used only where necessary because a suitable non-destructive method is not practical for the particular lock or fault involved.

Lock Repairs and Replacements After Entry

Regaining access does not always resolve the underlying fault. If the lock, cylinder, gearbox or mechanism is worn or damaged, further repair or replacement may be required to ensure that the door can be locked and secured properly.

After opening the door, we can assess whether adjustment, realignment, repair, replacement or a security upgrade is required. If keys have been lost or stolen, changing the relevant lock or cylinder may be advisable so that the missing keys no longer provide access to the property.

Locked Out of a uPVC or Composite Door

A uPVC or composite door may fail to open because of a faulty euro cylinder, broken gearbox, damaged handle, failed multipoint locking mechanism or poor door alignment.

Forcing the handle or key can cause additional damage to the cylinder, gearbox or multipoint mechanism. We can assess the locking system, regain access where possible and advise whether adjustment, repair or replacement is required.

Proof of Identity and Authority

For customer safety and property security, we may request evidence of identity and your authority to enter the premises before opening the door or carrying out other access work.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include photographic identification, proof of address, tenancy documents, proof of ownership or confirmation from a landlord, letting agent or authorised property manager.

We reserve the right to refuse or stop work where satisfactory evidence of authority cannot be provided or where there are concerns about the lawfulness of the request.
